Livingstone Medical have been researching, designing and publishing consumer health information for

over three decades. Prior to that, company founder Ian Wood  spent 10 years in the pharmaceutical

industry - identifying a distinct lack of independent and balanced information for patients.

Our own consumer health series Diseases Explained was first published in the UK in 1996 as individual

titles and later published worldwide - as a series -  in partnership with US publisher Lexi-Comp

(now part of Wolter Kluwers) and in association with Case Western University's Teaching Hospital, Department of Family Practice  (CWU)

The series was approved by the American Academy of Family Physician's Foundation (AAFPF)

and certified in the UK by the Department of Health's (NHS) Information Standard.

It was also  endorsed by the UK Family Doctor Association  (FDA)

It later formed the basis for the MA in Health Communication Design, Coventry University's

inaugral degree for the new UK Health Design & Technology Institute (HDTI).

The company has also provided training and consultancy services to Patient Support Groups, the NHS,

Healthcare Organsations, Health Agencies, Clinical and Pharmaceutical Companies.
